Thanks for visiting. I am no longer updating Notes to Self. I hope you'll join me on my current website, PlantingDandelions.com

Found.

This morning I went looking for a link to this local news story that is so arch-typically Arkansasan, that if it didn't involve real people being hurt, frightened, and nearly killed, would be a nearly complete breakfast of awesome. Let's just say there are only about three places on the planet where it could have happened, and they all touch the Mississippi delta.

Here's hoping everybody who was hurt gets well, and everyone who needs to be locked up, leashed or otherwise contained gets that too.

While I was looking for that, I found a link to the full text of a feature that ran in the state paper back in January, profiling me and the lovely Kristen Chase, briefly of Arkansas.

When it it came out, I couldn't find an online version that didn't cost something. This one's free!

Enjoyed learning more about you by reading the feature in the NWAnews.

Is it odd that a non-mommy (me) enjoys reading mommy blogs? No I really don't this so. I think this means the writing is so good, it crosses "demographic" lines.

Interesting article. I think blogs definitely qualify as documentation. How many bloggers post regular pictures on their site making them both a written journal and a scrapbook also? Keep up the good writing!

Oh man. That article about the shooting just got better and better! There's really no end of things that can go wrong when you get hitched at the swimmin' hole.

Off to read the other article now...

vfg, kyle is a terrific writer. I read where ever I see his byline now. and I really appreciated how deeply he read into this site in preparation for the story.

elaine,

I was thinking today how one of the reasons it's never felt "right" to me to use my children's names on the blog (even though you can learn them easily enough from my print work) is that it keeps the focus on me, not them. They walk in and off screen, but they are background. I don't disassociate myself from the mommy blogger term, because I am definitely part of that community, and because motherhood is a big part of my identity right now. But from my point of view, this blog is about so much more than that. Or at least, I hope it is.

The fact that their last name is "Beavers" is just the icing on the cake. I sure hope they called CMT about this. It would make a fantabulous episode of, "My Big Fat Redneck Wedding."

Hello again. I'm glad I returned to re-read the post, the article and these comments so I can clarify my own comment.

Oh yes, Kyran, your blog is about so much more. I only used the term "mommy blogger" because the article referred to mom-blogs.

Tonight in thinking about three of my top ten favourite blogs, I realize they are by three talented _writers_ who just happen to be moms who blog. I hope this makes sense.

perfect sense. the original comment was great. I'm always interested in hearing where readers are coming from. and I really, honestly don't mind the mommy blogger word.

I just read this post and opened 2 of the links in new tabs - I knew that one of them was something about you and I forgot what the other one was. So later I get around to looking at the links and I open the wedding disaster one first - but I thought it was the one that was about you. The more I read the more I questioned just why on earth you would not only seem happy to find this link but also that you would want to share it...even if it was FREE! Eventually I got it all worked out.
